As of July 28, 2019, a new state law removes the personal and philosophical option to exempt children from the MMR vaccine required for school and child care attendance. Learn more...

There are changes to state immunization rules for schools and childcare centers that became effective as of Aug. 1, 2020. These changes include:

  1. All immunization records turned in to schools or childcare centers after August 1, 2020, are required by state law to be medically verified. This means immunization records turned in to the school must be from a health care provider, or you must attach paperwork from a health care provider to your handwritten form that shows your child’s records are accurate. Additionally, you may submit a Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) printed from the Immunization Information System (IIS), which will not have a provider's signature.
  2. Students who are making progress toward completing their immunization requirements will be granted conditional status for entry into school or childcare.
  3. The requirement for a Tdap dose changes from grades 6-12 to grades 7-12. All students who are entering 7th through 12th grades must have one booster dose of the Tdap vaccine.

For more information please visit the Washington State Department of Health’s webpage. You may also contact your school nurse

Students must be up-to-date on immunizations and healthcare provider verified proof of immunizations available to be shown to the school nurse. This is not a whim of the school. It is mandated by the State of Washington.

These Washington state immunization requirements, which we must follow, are in the best interests of ALL the students. Because of immunizations, today's young people do not have to live through the communicable diseases of 40-50 years ago. Please see the information on the minimum vaccines required for school attendance.

Many medical providers enter vaccine dates into the statewide database. School nurses or assigned staff may view and search these records for missing immunizations. Your signature on the Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) form allows us to enter these dates onto your child’s school record.
